Newest Americans Story Bus Collects Youth Feedback for Newark 360 Master Plan

Rutgers University | The Newest Americans (NA) project has been documenting the lives of Newark's diverse immigrant population since its founding in 2014, producing exhibits, educational curriculum, and multimedia stories and short documentary films for outlets such as The New York Times and The Atlantic. In 2021 NA’s Story Bus—a van converted into a mobile audio-recording and photography studio—began roaming Newark’s streets to meet residents where they live and expand the group’s outreach. Newark City officials and Bloomberg Philanthropies took note and asked NA staff to help collect young residents' feedback for Newark 360, an effort to develop a comprehensive 10-year plan for the city, which was released to the public last week.
