Physicist Xuejian Wu Awarded NSF Grants to Develop Next Generation of Quantum Sensors
Rutgers University | Physics Professor Xuejian Wu (above right) has spent years developing the next generation of quantum (atomic) sensors for inertial navigation, a type of navigation important for aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, submarines and ships when Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) signals are inaccessible. He’s also been building new quantum gravimeters for precisely surveying gravity and estimating the density of underground rocks out in the field. Recently, Wu won two National Science Foundation grants totaling more than $1 million to continue work on these endeavors and expand research opportunities for underrepresented minority students in Physics.
